Under 16s Match Result

Sat 10th SEP 2016
Sumas were on the road away to newly promoted Div 2 champions Whitegrove Hurricanes in their opening league fixture. In an evenly contested first half, Sumas keeper Ellis Wisdom made some smart saves with Casey Starke striking the Hurricanes post to finish 0-0 at the break. The second half was much of the same but in the 65th minute a superbly struck Casey Starke in swinging free kick was stabbed home at the far post by midfielder Cameron Davies for the 1-0 lead. Hurricanes responded by upping their offensive and aerial assault with keeper Wisdom thwarting many of the set piece attacks and pulling off more top class saves. Sumas nearly went two up when Mike Valdambrini’s 25 yarder crashed against the bar and they held on to take the three points. Sumas Man of the Match went to keeper Ellis Wisdom.

Under 16s Unlucky to be Knocked Out of Cup

League CUP Round 1
Sat 1st OCT 2016
Wokingham & Emmbrook FC Sumas 2 Woodley Saints Panthers 3

In a fairly even first half of Cup action the Panthers went ahead on 15 minutes from a corner but just five minutes before the break the Sumas levelled matters. A slick Sumas passing move started by Cam Davies saw Mike Valdambrini’s shot saved only for Adam McLaughlin to stab home the rebound. In the second half Sumas probed and from a Davies corner Mike Valdambrini headed home from close range to put Sumas in control. That lead was short lived as Sumas conceded a pen for 2-2. With the game heading for extra time the Sumas were sunk with a late injury time headed goal. Sumas Man of the Match went to Cameron Davies who excelled in the holding midfield position.
