It’s a long time since Georgina played her first match for Wokingham & Emmbrook’s U8s. That same girl has now been selected to train as part of the England Women’s U15 team.
For some seasons Georgina played in two WEFC teams concurrently – for the boys as defender (Blacks) and then goalkeeper (Oranges), and girls team mainly up front scoring goals. Georgina attended Chelsea FC soccer school in Maidenhead in 2014, winning player of the week and was invited to train with the Girls Development Group at Chelsea FC’s training ground near Cobham. Whilst there, she was scouted for AFC Wimbledon and became their goalkeeper for the 2014–15 season.
Last season came a hard decision - whether to stay at grass-roots level or take the leap and try out for the Regional Talent Clubs. For the last two seasons she had played matches on a Saturday (WEFC Girls) and a Sunday (AFC Wimbledon). She secured a trial at Arsenal RTC but narrowly missed out on a place. Not deterred however she trialed for Reading RTC U16s and was offered a contract at her first trial.
This season she has been starting goalkeeper at Reading, playing against other RTC U16 teams such as Chelsea, Millwall, Southampton and Aston Villa. She had barely been at Reading a couple of months before she was invited to attend an England WU15 training camp at St George’s Park. She continues to be selected as part of the England WU15 squad and in February was destined to play an international against the Germany WU15 team (but this was unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather). Watch out for Georgina in the coming seasons, you may yet see her at Wembley! Certainly one for all the girls to aspire to.
